    Question

I'm very new to super 8 and I was wondering how 18 fps looks, is it really bad? Also does it hinder when transfering to tape?

18 fps looks actually pretty decent, just dont make any quick movements with the camera such as panning too fast. 18 fps was designed to save film for the amatuer, it gives the photographer 50 more seconds of film. Transfering the film at 18 fps Ive heard is very good. If you transfer it yourself (if you have the equipment) it will turn out nice. Make sure you have a variable speed projector or multispeed projector. That will help the flicker result when transfering. I recommend 18 fps for beginners, then start using 24 fps when you feel ready. Hope this helps.

I agree with Hanthx. If you can shoot at 24fps I would suggest it. However if you are not doing anything that has to do with post-sync work stay at 18. My friend just finished an exprimental film that was hsot at 18 it looks great except for the transfer. Good luck
